But these battles tend to be very one-sided and are not very tactical or intense. This forces the AI to attack you, allowing you to set up in the most defensable position for your army even if you initiated the battle, all the while taking significant potshots out of your enemy's army. One significant strategy in FotS is to have bigger/better/more artillery than your opponent. You can force yourself to play in different ways and with different types of units yourself, but there's very little that is unique about the clans which forces you to play different. In FotS there is pretty much a single ideal army and tactic for every clan that doesn't really have much variance even between early and late game. This makes the game feel very different every time you play, combined with how the AI will expand differently from campaign to campaign. In Shogun 2 you are forced to really use your clan's unique units and abilities, particularly when you play on harder and harder difficulties.
